Golf Drivers

An important factor for getting the most distance (as well as accuracy) from your golf driver is the amount of shaft flex your driver has. The amount of flex you’ll need will depend on your swing speed. If you have an unusually fast swing speed you’ll want a stiff shaft, otherwise the shaft will ‘whip’ during your swing and result in off-center hits.

However, if you have a slower swing, the “whip” designed into many golf drivers can be a good thing. It can act like a spring to store energy at the top of your swing and release it on contact with the ball, increasing the power behind your swing.

There are usually five ratings for stiffness in golf driver shafts; Ladies, Senior, Regular, Stiff and Extra Stiff. The best way to find out what stiffness you need is to have a professional examine your swing. But when in doubt, go with too much flex rather than not enough.
