Golf Balls
New, brand name golf balls can run over $80 per dozen. This can put a dent in anyone’s budget, especially if you’re prone to knocking balls into the lake. However there are several ways to save money and still get reasonable quality.
The first and most obvious way is to purchase used golf balls. Often these are balls that have been fished out of water hazards or otherwise reclaimed, and their quality can vary, but it is possible to get balls that are almost indistinguishable from new, for less than half the price. More heavily used balls are still just fine for practice or casual use.
Sometimes during manufacturing mistakes can happen and the golf ball companies end up with golf balls featuring some kind of defect – usually very minor or cosmetic. Rather than destroy or discard these, they often sell them as ‘x-outs’, called so because the brand name is generally stamped over with x’s.
